ChildCan

The purpose of ChildCan is to make the burden of childhood cancer a little less painful for the families in order to make the treatment process easier. We need you to help make it easier for us.

Paula's favourite charitable organization is ChildCan, which raises money for children suffering with cancer.  In previous years, here at Paula's Fish Place, we have held our Annual ChildCan Day, where just by eating our delicious food, you are helping a child.

Each year our goal is to serve more customers and raise even more money. In 2004, we served over 300 customers and received over 100 donated prizes from local businesses in the surrounding area. This, along with generous donations from service clubs and businesses, we managed to raise over $12,000.00.

Each year ChildCan helps at least 50 or more children from Essex and Kent counties, in addition to those already on the ChildCan list. The money we raise helps with many of the expenses that arise for these families as well as contributing to the research of this ongoing disease.

ChildCan knows how much it takes to help children and their families deal with cancer. The child should be the sole focus and ChildCan’s aim is to enable parents to concentrate on how to best aid their child. They pay for hospital parking passes for parents while their child is on active treatment, support the Child Life program with purchasing current movies and video games for the children to use while in hospital, and provide support and purchasing for pediatric medical equipment. They also support the Pediatric Medical Day Unit ‘Treasure Chest,’ a program that rewards the patient for their bravery and courage, as well as Camp Trillium, a childhood cancer support center which offers a chance for children and their parents to reconnect with the world.

The research ChildCan has helped to fund has lead to researchers at CHWO discovering major advances in treatment and pain management, in addition to new techniques in coping and adaptation.

These have just been a few examples of what ChildCan does to help children and their families cope with cancer. ChildCan works with the oncology team at the Children’s Hospital to provide the on-going care that accompanies the intensive treatment protocols. This organization receives no funding from either the Canadian Cancer Society or the United Way, and they need help to continue to do their good work - help from events like Paula’s Annual ChildCan Day. Please help us in assisting ChildCan’s efforts.

If you would like to support this most deserving cause, please contact ChildCan.  This beautiful children need you.
